Fifth Episode of Siggie presenting her take on the history of the monarchs of England in the context of her favorite topic….herself. Here she discusses the first Kings of England following the Norman Invasion of 1066, especially the famous William I “The Conqueror”.

King William the First, otherwise known as William the Conqueror, was the first Norman King of
England. No more House of Wessex! Now we have the House of Normandy. William the
Conqueror defeated Harold II of Hastings shortly after his cousin Edward the
Confessor died. William the Conqueror built the Tower of London. Did you know that? That was that
was quite the happening place, you know, where what’s her name… Mary Queen of
Scots went, and I believe Queen Elizabeth the First was, was like, was was
sent there for a period of time when she was quaking and her boots, thinking that she
was going to die. Yeah. William the Conqueror. So, he built the Tower of London. He also
ordered the compilation of the Domesday Book. Not the “Doomsday” Book but the “Domesday”
Book. And he founded the New Forest as a royal hunting ground.
William the Conqueror reigned from 1066 to 1087. At this point, we have a couple more House of Normandy
Kings. We have King William II, and we have King Henry the First. Yeah, we’re
getting into the King Henries, leading up to the famous King Henry the 8th. Anyway, it
all started with King Henry the First.

King William II reigned from 1087 to 1100 in the House of Normandy. William the
First’s oldest son inherited Normandy and this allowed the younger William to
inherit England. King William II, also known as Rufus, imposed heavy taxes. Get
this… He was fatally shot through a lung while hunting. The Rufus Stone is a famous stone in
the New Forest and that marks where he was shot. Now let’s move to King Henry
the First of the House of Normandy. He was the brother of William II, and he wasted
no time at all and seized the throne when William II died. Henry the First
developed the Royal Justice System and introduced the Exchequer. Anyway, he did
develop the Royal Justice System. Henry the First tragically lost his son at sea.
I believe that there was a lot of drinking going on, and I think they they
might have hit an iceberg or something. Whatever. I think it goes back to serious
drunkenness and the son was on, was on the ship and it was all… yeah, yeah.
